Williams Mullen is pleased to announce the election of eight new partners, effective Feb. 1. Joshua Brady (Tysons), Jamie Bruno (Richmond), Elinor Clendenin (Richmond), Daniel Durst (Richmond), Preston Lloyd (Richmond), Andrew Mathews (Richmond), Scott Miller (Hampton Roads) and Joseph Noble (Richmond) were elected at the firm’s January board meeting.
“These young attorneys have done terrific work at Williams Mullen,” President and CEO Woody Fowler said. “We are proud of their accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow as Partners.”
Mr. Brady provides foreign and domestic clients with a wide range of intellectual property services. He has broad experience in patent litigation and prosecution, trademark protection and enforcement, and trade secret and unfair competition litigation. He assists businesses with identifying and enhancing the value of intellectual property assets, as well as portfolio management, due diligence and opinions.
Ms. Bruno assists a wide variety of commercial lenders, from local and community banks to national banking associations, on all aspects of commercial financial transactions. She also has experience with asset-based lending, federal and state historic rehabilitation and federal low-income tax credit transactions and loan workouts. She is a member of the Junior League of Richmond, and she was named a “Rising Star” by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine in 2013 and 2014.
Ms. Clendenin focuses her practice on all aspects of employee benefits law. She assists clients with the design, implementation and operation of tax-qualified retirement and savings plans, and health and welfare programs. She also assists clients with filing for determination letters from the IRS, correcting violations under the DOL’s Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program and correcting plan errors under the IRS’s Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS). She is the Co-Chair of the DIAD Committee for the Junior League, and she was named a “Rising Star” by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine in 2015.
Mr. Durst helps individuals sort through complicated tax matters relating to business and estate planning. His practice is focused on guiding people through the preparation of wills and trusts, the creation of family limited partnerships and other entities and analysis of related estate tax, gift tax and generation-skipping transfer tax issues. He is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Richmond, the Trust Administrator’s Council of Richmond and the NeXt Estate Planning Group of Richmond. In addition, he serves on the Legislative committee for the Wills, Trusts and Estate Section of the Virginia Bar Association and the Real Property, Trust and Estate Section of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Lloyd counsels national, regional and local property owners and developers in connection with commercial real estate transactions, especially matters related to land use and zoning, economic development, historic preservation, public finance and local government law in Virginia jurisdictions. He serves on the board of directors of the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, as well as Virginia Supportive Housing. In 2015, he was named to Style Weekly’s Top 40 Under 40.
Mr. Mathews focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation matters, with an emphasis in construction and commercial real estate disputes. He also has represented businesses and individuals in government and corporate investigations in matters involving securities and banking regulation, the Lacey Act, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Prior to joining the firm, he was a financial consultant at Smith Barney and sold insurance and annuities with Genworth Financial.
Mr. Miller focuses his practice on corporate and commercial litigation matters. He helps companies and individuals navigate through difficult situations and find answers to their legal or business issues. Mr. Miller works extensively with retailers, financial institutions, insurance companies, construction companies and other commercial entities. Prior to joining Williams Mullen, he worked in the offices of Congressman, now Senator, Mark Udall of Colorado and Senator John Warner of Virginia. He has been named a “Rising Star” by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Noble’s practice focuses on real estate acquisitions, sales, commercial leasing, tax credit transactions, bankruptcy and financing. He represents local and national real estate investment trusts, developers and commercial entities with respect to the acquisition, development, sale, leasing and financing of all types of commercial, retail and residential real estate projects. His practice also has a strong emphasis on the acquisition, development and construction of multi-family housing developments intended to qualify for federal low-income housing tax credits and/or federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits.
