Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that W. Alexander Burnett has been elected as chair of the Virginia Bar Association’s Construction and Public Contracts Law Section. Alex served as the section’s vice chair during the 2017 term. He will serve a one-year term.
The section works to monitor, initiate and promote legislation that affects the construction industry and matters of public contracts law, publishes articles and blogs about recent developments in construction and government contracting law and presents continuing legal education seminars to members of the Virginia Bar Association.
Alex, based in the firm’s Richmond office, focuses his practice on construction litigation, bankruptcy & creditors' rights, real estate litigation, including landlord/tenant matters, as well as general commercial litigation. He serves a broad spectrum of clients involved in the construction industry including banks, owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. He actively participates in client’s construction projects by drafting or revising contracts, advising clients of their rights throughout a project, and regularly litigating and arbitrating on behalf of clients, including litigation over contract disputes, prosecuting and defending mechanic’s liens, mechanic’s lien enforcement, payment and performance bond claims.
Melisa A. Roy, based in the firm’s Tysons office, has been elected vice chair of the section and will serve a one-year term. Melisa focuses her practice on construction litigation, suretyship and government contracts. She assists clients with construction contract formation and interpretation, and she advises clients with respect to payment and performance bond disputes. Her experience includes assisting owners, contractors, subcontractors, and sureties in highway; power plant; water treatment plant; lock and dam; building; public transit; as well as payment and performance bond disputes in jurisdictions across the United States before federal courts, state courts and administrative boards.
